CRYPT8 file type
A CRYPT file is an encrypted file created by WhatsApp Messenger, a popular smartphone messenging application. It contains an archive of messages backed up from the WhatsApp application.
You can manually create CRYPT files. On your phone, select . The CRYPT file will be created as msgstore.db.crypt and saved in the following directory:
/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/
To restore your messages from a CRYPT file, uninstall your WhatsApp program, rename the file you want to restore to msgstore.db.crypt, install WhatsApp, and select when prompted.
NOTE: Since CRYPT files are saved in an encrypted format, they must be decrypted before being opened or restored. WhatsApp can decrypt your saved CRYPT files if you are logged in with the same Google account you used to create the backup. Alternatively, WhatsApp may request a "key file" saved on the device in order to decrypt the file.
