WUX file type
Wii U image compression tool compresses .WUD file creating a WUX, Wii U Disk Image, file format. The aim of compression is to preserve space on HDD, yet the WUD format includes all the information about a game. On PC, you can use Cemu, a Wii U game emulator, to open WUX files.
You can get WUX files by compressing WUD files. Homebrew for Wii U creates WUD files that have game information dumped from a Wii U game. The game information file is over 20 GB. To optimize this, the app creates several WUD files where each of them stores parts of the game. Those files are about 2 GB each. It is possible to use the Wii U image compression tool to decrease the size of the WUD file. Doing so may decrease file size from 20 Gb down to 2 GB. The compressions produce a WUX file.
Use the Wii U image compression tool to decompress WUX files. That way it is possible to get back WUD files. If you want to open a WUX file in Cemu, choose the Load option from the File menu and select the required WUX files.
