.BOOK Type 1

Digital book created by iBooks Author, a program used to create Books for macOS and iOS devices; saves the chapters, sections, and pages of the book, as well as the page layout information; also saves the book's title, introduction media, table of contents, and glossary; used for textbooks, picture books, multimedia books, and many other types of digital books.

iBook Author documents can be exported to the .IBOOKS format for direct upload to an iPad (through the iTunes software) or for sharing with others. IBA files can also be exported to .PDF or .TXT (plain text) files for reading on the local computer or other devices.

IBA files are saved in a compressed .ZIP format. Therefore, you can open them manually with any Zip decompression program to see the book contents.

To sell a book on the Apple Book Store, you can publish the IBA file to the .ITMSP format (iTunes Store package) by selecting File → Publish.... Next, submit the package to the Apple Book Store for review using the iTunes Producer software, which is provided for download with the iTunes Connect (iTC) Content Provider program.

NOTE: Books was formerly known as "iBooks" but renamed with the release of macOS Mojave and iOS 12.

.BOOK Type 2

A BOOK file is a book created by BookSmart, a free tool used to create photo books, notebooks, and planners. It contains the pages of a book, which includes text, images, and layout settings. BOOK files are saved in an XML format.

The BOOK file is the main file type associated with BookSmart. When you save a book project, the program creates the BOOK file to store the contents. You can choose books with different page layouts, such as wedding album, cookbook, guestbook, notebook, and yearbook. You can also choose from different themes that include photo borders and page backgrounds with coordinating colors. If you want to back up or share your BOOK file you can export the project as a .BOOKEXPORT file.

To create a BOOK file, select File → New → Book Project. You can save a BOOK file by selecting File → Save. Once you save the BOOK file, BookSmart will automatically save the file and any edits you make going forward.

Book file created by FrameMaker, a program used to generate books and other large documents; stores references to FrameMaker documents (.FM and .MIF files), which can contain chapters, appendixes, table of contents, and other books; enables users to compile a book from smaller document subparts.

NOTE: When you rename files referenced in a BOOK file, FrameMaker also renames the referenced files on disk. This is because FrameMaker books contain links to the actual FrameMaker documents on the computer's hard drive.

Budget In Brief supports several different document types for creating the output budget reports. These formats include .DOC, .DOCX, .RTF, .HTML, and .ODT. The program can also accept input data sources from Microsoft Excel .XLSX files and .XML files.

NOTE: BOOK files are currently created using a plain text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad, or an XML editor. Budget In Brief is no longer available for download.
