.ODM Type 1
Word processing software that is compatible with OpenDocument standards can create master text documents. One famous example is Apache OpenOffice. It includes links to external files. Those links may navigate to the document's contents, to its index or table of contents as well.
With master documents, several editors can work on different parts of the document simultaneously. This is beneficial for book authors or other mediums of the publication that work with huge content.
NOTE: Apache OpenOffice, formerly OpenOffice.org, developed the OASIS OpenDocument standard. This standard is used in ODM files. They include XML-based formatting.
