Description

Adobe Director is a program used to create multimedia applications. It was originally created to create animation sequences, but it is now used to create Shockwave apps such as games and eLearning classes. Version 12 of Adobe Director was the last version of the software released before it was discontinued in 2017.

Director allows you to create multimedia applications using an interface and workflow based on movie making. It uses Lingo, a scripting language that allows for interactivity to be added into applications. It also has 2D image manipulation tools and can support 3D interactivity with Shockwave 3D file objects.

Adobe Flash is often compared to Director as they share many similarities in their use and purpose. Both programs can be used to create web apps that run on Adobe plugins. Director is more extensible than the other. There are many plugins available that add tools and features to Director.

If you wish to develop web applications and prefer a more extensible program, Director has a lot more to offer than Flash. If you don't want your users to be required to download a plugin for your application to work, you may be interested in using web technologies like JavaScript.
