Description

H&R Block At home is a tax preparation software that assists in the preparation and filing of tax returns for both federal and state taxes in the United States. It includes step-by-step instructions that guide users through the tax return process. Once a return has been completed, users can either print and mail the tax forms or file them electronically online. H&R Block releases an updated edition of At Home every year to meet tax codes for the current tax seasons. Software that was installed for one tax year cannot be used to complete tax returns for the next tax year.

At Home offers a "Do It-Yourself" model that allows ordinary people to file tax returns without the assistance of a professional tax advisor. At Home ensures that tax returns are compliant by performing tax validation and error checks. It also uses built-in expertise in order to find the maximum refund. H&R Block offers several At-Home versions that are tailored to different user groups. These include homeowners, investors, homeowners, self-employed and landlords. Each version incrementally adds new features to meet the growing needs of each user group. At Home also provides the Smart Import feature, which allows users to import tax information from previous versions of At Home, or from TurboTax, Quicken, Microsoft Money, or any financial software package that exports to .TXF (Tax Exchange Format) files. When these files are imported, At Home automatically enters data into the user tax forms with the provided information.

At Home's user interface walks users through the tax return process step-by-step. The interface is structured by multiple tabs that help prepare different types of tax forms. Each section of a tax return may be temporarily incomplete. Users can continue where they left off later. The interface offers help tools and information about the status of federal and state refunds. This information is updated as users complete tax return forms. At Home validates all forms and reports any errors. When users have fixed the errors, they may select the File tab to electronically file or print their tax return documents.

At Home taxpayers are a mix of federal and state taxpayers who file taxes to pay personal income, self-employment, investments, or rental properties. These taxpayers benefit from the "Do-It-Yourself" model, which can save money instead of hiring professionals to complete tax returns. For users who want to file and complete their taxes at the federal and state levels of the United States, At Home is a good option.
