Description
MacVim is a source editor for Mac. It is based on Vim (Vi enhanced), a popular Unix text editor. MacVim includes many of the same features as Vim but also a graphical interface which makes source code editing easier. MacVim is similar to gVim, which is available for Windows.
MacVim, just like Vim or gVim has support for dozens programming languages and is extremely efficient for source code editing. Yet, Vim itself often takes a bit of time to get used to, since its hotkey system is counterintuitive to many. MacVim makes editing and saving much easier by providing access to many hotkey functions via a menu bar or the program menu. This reduces the barrier of entry for new programmers.
MacVim is an excellent source code editor. Unfortunately, with the release of Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, it is no longer supported and will not function. The program will still be useful for OS X 10.6, 10.7, 10.8, and 10.8 users.
