Description

Planamesa NeoOffice, an open-source office suite similar to Microsoft Office, was created specifically for Mac OS X. The program descended from OpenOffice.org and is closely related to LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice.

The NeoOffice suite offers several applications that allow you to create and edit text documents, drawings, diagrams, presentations, and spreadsheets. It supports a wide array of office productivity file formats. Most notably, the suite can read and write most Microsoft Office XML file formats, such as .DOCX, .XLSX, and .PPTX.

As mentioned earlier, NeoOffice is similar to LibreOffice and OpenOffice, but is developed specifically for Mac OS X. NeoOffice includes the use of the Mac OS X "Gatekeeper" feature to protect you from installing malicious software, Mac OS X "Versions" feature to allow you to restore previous versions of your document, and Mac OS X text highlighting behavior to give you the same feel as other Mac OS X applications.

Planamesa NeoOffice, an office suite for Mac OS X, is a competent one. It is compatible with many industry-standard file formats and runs natively in Mac OS X. NeoOffice is no more available as a free download. It requires a donation. Both Apache OpenOffice, and LibreOffice are now natively supported in Mac OS X. So if you're looking for a free alternative to Microsoft Office, OpenOffice or LibreOffice are better choices.
