Nero is a suite of applications used to organize, play, edit, convert, rip, burn, backup, and rescue different media. The suite is available in a Standard version, which includes the Video, Burning ROM, MediaHome, and Recode programs. It is also available as a Platinum version that includes the Video, MediaHome and MediaHome programs, Recode, BackItUp and Music Recorder.

Nero launches with a screen that lists all available programs in four sections. You can choose which application you want to open depending on whether you want to manage and play, edit & converter, rip & Burn, or back up/rescue your media files.

Nero provides a variety of features that help you organize your media content. The application automatically creates keyword tags for Windows Explorer folder and subfolder names, which lets you find files quicker. Nero supports face recognition, which allows you to organize photos based on a person's face. The multimedia suite lets you create image and video presentations with express or advanced editing features, such as effects, transitions, titles, and movie theme templates.

Once completed, you can burn your projects to DVDs, CDs, and Blu-ray discs with Nero's advanced disc burning engine. You can also buy and create photo albums to present your photos in a physical format. Nero can convert to and from a variety of video formats including AVCHD, DVD, and online videos. The application gives you one-click disc to device that makes it quick and easy to get content to your mobile device or cloud storage. The program also provides Nero Play to TV, which streams slideshows and videos to your TV.

Nero also supports add-ons to enhance the functionality of the suite, such as editing, converting and burning tools. You can download or purchase apps and creative packages. Some free tools include a jewel case cover designer, an audio recorder and editor with filtering methods, and an audio mixer that lets you digitize your analog music collection. You can also purchase apps and creative packs such as a Blu-ray player app, video or slideshow themes, and a Bluray player app.
