Pixelmator is an OS X image editing app. It can be used for drawing, editing photos, painting, applying effects, and many other things.

The image editor supports many popular image-editing file types, including JPEG, PNG and TIFF, GIFs, BMPs, PSD, and PDF. It features layer-based image editing and comes with more than 40 tools for selecting, drawing, typing, cropping, measuring, and retouching. You can choose from over 100 different effects to apply to your images and tweak the color of your images with 15 color correction tools. The image editor also integrates with OS X, which allows quick access to the photos on your computer and the ability to share images via Message, Mail, Twitter, and Facebook.

Pixelmator is an image editor that will appeal to casual users, but also professionals. Pixelmator is a more basic version of Adobe Photoshop, but it has a lower learning curve and a lower price. If you can spend the money, Pixelmator is a solid image editor for its cost, but if you can't swing the price, try GIMP or the web-based Autodesk Pixlr app, which are both free.
